Take This Job and Shove It

Take This Job and Shove It Movie PosterI've seen some press about 'Shove It' being some sort of new kick ass, beat the Boss, hip hop song. Don't be mislead!

'Take This Job and Shove It' was made FAMOUS by Johnny PayCheck and was written by David Allan Coe, two good Ol' country music boys.

Take This Job and Shove It must surely be the single song every one relates with Johnny PayCheck. Shove It was without doubt PayChecks biggest hit.

Take This Job and Shove It is a song that contains the same power and passion today as it did when Johnny PayCheck released it in 1977.

The song was released at a time when taxes in the US were up, unemployment was up and work practices, many in blue collar jobs, were changing.

The song gave so many workers an anthem and in several cases gave disillusioned employees just that little bit extra incentive they were looking for to down tools and g on strike.

Take This Job and Shove It became such a popular hit that it spawned a movie of the same name.

Lots of people think that Shove It was written by Johnny PayCheck. It was actually written by another wild country renegade, David Allan Coe.

You would think that if one of your songs sold over 1 million copies and became known nationally, you would be pretty pleased with yourself. But this was not the case for David Allan Coe.

Coe was displeased for 2 reasons. David Allan owed the IRS money and lots of his songs were sold to pay his bills. Shove It was one of those songs. So any money that he would have received from Shove It went to the new owner of the song. Secondly, David Allan Coe was peeved that he believed Johnny PayCheck never gave him his due credit for writing the song.

Take This Job and Shove It.

CHORUS

Take this job and shove it
I ain't workin' here no more
My woman done left and took all the reasons
I was workin' for
You better not to try to stand in my way
As I walk out the door
Just take this job and shove it
"Cause I ain't workin' here no more.

I've been workin' in this fact'ry
For nigh on fifteen years
Seen some of my best friends' women
Drownin' in a pool of tears
Seen alot of my kinfolk die
Had a lot of bills to pay
Lord, I'd give the shirt right off of my back
If I had the guts to say...

REPEAT CHORUS

The foreman is a regular low-down dog
The line boss is a fool
Got himself a brand new flattop haircut
Lord, he really thinks that's cool
One of these days, I'm gonna blow my top
And that sucker's going to pay
Lord, I can't wait to see their faces
When I get the nerve to say...

REPEAT CHORUS
